The first step toward making surgery dolls is collecting fabric for their hospital gowns.  Bring any fabric donations to the next club meeting on March 6th.  See you there!

JOOI of Reading month will begin the first full week of March.  Please bring any empty shoe boxes to the library ASAP to help collect tickets from the teams.  The first ticket collection day will be Thursday, March 8th,  Don't forget to pick up your collection envelope from Mrs. L and return it before the end of the day.  The winning team will receive an ice cream party so start reading!

Here are the upcoming projects we talked about at this week's meeting.  Let Mrs. L know if you still need to sign-up for a committee.
  • JOOI of Reading Month - During March we will be encouraging La Mesa students to read MORE!  Help pick prizes and run the contest as a part of this committee.
  • Surgery Dolls - We will be constructing surgery dolls to give to kids who have to go to the hospital.  No sewing experience is necessary.
There will also be more opportunities to help out at school in April.  Download the calendar for the full second semester schedule.

Welcome back to a new semester.  The officers are excited about some of our projects this spring.  Come to the club meeting on February 7th to find out more about the JOOI of Reading and our Surgery Doll project.

Thanks to everyone who has helped to get the food and toy drive off to a good start.  All of our committees will be meeting the week after Thanksgiving to continue work on our service projects.

Food and Toy Drive Committee - meets Monday, November 28 at lunch

Tree Committee - meets Tuesday, November 29 at lunch or after school to decorate the tree

We hope to see you at the meetings.  Don't forget to bring in your donations for the food and toy drive.

The JOOI club will be sponsoring a canned and boxed food drive starting Monday, November 14.  Collection stations will be set up in the library , main office, and Miss Putt's room for students to drop off their donations.  The Food Drive committee meets on Mondays to help organize this event.

Mark your calendars for the tree shopping day on November 19th.  We will meet outside the GV Target at 10:00 am to shop for tree decorations, gifts, and a few items for the food and toy drive.  Don't miss out on the fun!

La Mesa JOOI's next fundraiser takes place Sunday, October 30 at the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station.  We will be running a carnival booth at their Haunted Jailhouse Carnival.  Sign up at the October 25 club meeting for a shift and help raise money for the Festival of the Trees.  Shifts start at 9:30am and run until 4:30pm.  Students should sign up to work a minimum of 90 minutes to help us reach our goals.  We need to raise at least $150 to meet our fundraising goal.
